The 7th Annual Rotary Winterama "For the Kids" was held Saturday February 7th in Shallow Lake and Port Elgin.

The event put on by local Rotary Clubs raises money that goes toward youth and children's programs and activities. The day featured snowshoe(ing), skating, cross-country skiing and a snowmobile run.

Between the two communities, $21,541.82 was raised, although the snowmobile events have yet to be totalled as some were unable to run due to the unseasonably warm weather. Port Elgin raised $4,881.00 while the little village of Shallow Lake raised $16,660.82.

According to Francesca Dobbin, Executive Director of the United Way, the overall top fundraisers were:

Skiers

Bruno Rudolph $922
Alanna Lawrence $220
Kariss & Rebekah Lawrence tied for 3rd both raising $175

Skaters

Roger Torne $745
Jim Cole $705
Peter Hearn $670
Snowshoers
Gay Ratcliffe $3,675
Vickie Doubt $2,205
Donna Lynn Urbshott $1,120

In Saugeen Shores, Erin Zorzi, Port Elgin Rotary President, praised the Saugeen Shores Pee Wee 'A' hockey team. It's wonderful to see these young people come out and 20 per cent of what they raised will go back to the team. That's the most important aspect of this event. The funds raised go toward our own youth."
