Tucked away in a small grove of trees in Southampton on the
shore of Lake Huron, the Wiggle Inn has only had three owners in
its long history of 100 years.
Lorne Shantz and his wife Jeannie are the third.
Presbyterian Minister, Reverend Gilbert C. Little was the
original owner until Lorne Shantz' father bought the 'cottage'
in 1946 for $2,200. "We used to come here all the time when I
was small," says Shantz, "and stayed in a little log cabin right
beside the Wiggle Inn."
Shantz Jr. bought the cottage from his father's estate in 1993.
On Monday night, January 26th, a Heritage Plaque was presented
by Saugeen Shores Heritage Committee Chair, Joyce Johnston, to
Lorne and Jeannie Shantz at the meeting of Saugeen Shores Town
Council. The plaque will be placed, according to Jeannie Shantz,
"...right under the Wiggle Inn sign." (next column)
