What  is Recyclable?

Town Council Guesses

July 28, 2008

Saugeen Shores Councilor, Fred Shildroth, representative with Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling (BASWR), challenged Town Council on their knowledge of what is, and isn't, a recyclable item.

Shildroth pointed out more than 1,100 metic tonnes were diverted from the landfill in 2007 through waste management and recycling.  "While some communities may have a wider range of items to be picked-up through the blue box system, many items after sorting are, in fact, sent to landfills.  In Saugeen Shores however, we  recycle everything that is picked up."

As part of the challenge, Shildroth had placed a number of items on a table with only two being non-recyclable.  No one on Council detected the two items that could not be placed in the Blue Box Recycle Program.
