Water intake project costing $5,284,100 plus taxes and bonus nears completion

David Burnside, Director of Engineering Services, brought an update to Council, October 6th, regarding the raw water intake project at Southampton.

According to Burnside, "The contractor, McNally Construction, has been working 24 hours a day, weather permitting, in an attempt to complete the project before the expiration of the work permit for the off-shore work, on September 30th."

Due to weather conditions, the Ministry of Natural Resources has extended the permit to October 18th.

The last major item remaining is the steel intake structure that will be lowered into place and connected to the pipe but, again, it is dependant on lake conditions.

"The off-shore part of the project must be completed by the extension deadline," explains Burnside, "and once it is, they will then have to pressure test the line.  We hope to have the line operational by the end of November."

The total amount for the project was approved at $5,284,100 (+ taxes) plus a $250,000 incentive bonus.  The incentive payment was not tied to the September 30th deadline but, instead, for completion within one construction season and, therefore, will be paid to McNally upon completion.

Dune restoration has been removed from the contractor because of its complex and unique nature.  Instead, the Town will be taking on the Dune Restoration Project in the spring.
