Ward 1 landfill could become dog park
By Liz Dadson

Once it is closed next year and rehabilitated, the Ward 1 (former Kincardine) landfill could be turned into a dog park.

At the recent council meeting, a letter was received from Teri Morris, stating she had sent an E-mail message to public works manager Jim O'Rourke about setting up a dog park similar to the one opened in Port Elgin.
Morris wrote that there is some interest in the idea and she wants to look into the details and find out if there are any objections to the proposal.

"A dog park is a good idea," said councillor Randy Roppel. "We could utilize that space, rather than letting it sit dormant. For people who own a dog, they could let their dogs frolic."

Council agreed to send the letter to the public works committee for discussion with a recommendation to council.
Deputy mayor Laura Haight also suggested the letter be sent to the parks and recreation committee for input regarding use of the property, regulations, and so on.

Chief administrative officer John deRosenroll said there are three options for the landfill property once it is closed and
covered: a dog park, a firefighter training area, or a waste recycling area.

The proposal was sent to the public works committee which will keep the recreation committee informed
