Vaughn Mills Shopping Centre came to Southampton today, Tuesday, June 24 to review the progress on the magnificent Lighthouse to be installed in the Mall in mid July.  It will promote Bruce County Tourism and be a larger representation of the famous Bruce County Logo

The project was initiated by Chris Hughes the energetic and creative  head of Bruce County Tourism.  The Lighthouse will be placed inside the giant Vaughan Mills Mall to represent Bruce County to the world of shoppers who come to the Mall.

Chris pulled up to the Boat House in Southampton with Nicole Leaper of Ontario Tourism and three representatives of Vaughan Mills Mall.  There were Lesley Boughen Tourism Coordinator, Jenny Jovanovic and Jamie MacLean.

Lesley had been told to look at the Saugeen Times to review an article about the new creation (see Vaughn Mills Lighthouse Takes Shape) Since we also have an article on the Saugeen Times about the restoration of the McNab Point Range Light Nears Completion, she thought that was the one intended for Vaughn Mills.  She said she thought it was nice, but a little large.  She noticed that we discussed the famous 'Gap' which was used to direct ships into the Harbour of Refuge. She thought that was nice since Vaughan Mills has a GAP too

Strangely, the Vaughn Mills Lighthouse will be placed very near the modern store called the GAP and in the midst of 190 plus other stores. What great publicity for Bruce County and the Saugeen Area.

Their visit was to review the progress and take a look at the creation put together by the Propeller Club  volunteers (Gord Webb President) and under the auspices of the Marine Heritage Society (Larry LePage Chairman).  Key to the project have been Bob Trelford, Peter Haskey, Rick Schumacher and Murray Majore and others.

As usual the Boat House is perfect for the construction and review of this project and many others.
