A Lighthouse Takes Shape in the Boat House

Architectural Concept Drawing Bob Trelford and Peter Haskey are building a small lighthouse for Bruce County Tourism. The Lighthouse is the symbol and icon of Bruce County as seen in the tourism logo. Trelford a lifetime master carpenter and shop teacher and Haskey a career metal worker with great skills are ideal to do this job. Chris Hughes head of Bruce County Tourism asked the busy and vibrant Marine Heritage Society and Propeller Club to do the job and Trelford and Hasky jumped right on it. The construction has been going at a rapid pace. The Lighthouse is made of light metal frames like a giant hexagonal cone. The floors are wood and the trim will be put on soon. Heavy duty sheeting covers the skeleton of the structure. What is impressive is the fact that a plumb bob hung from the second floor centres perfectly with the first floor. After all that bending and measuring, the structure is near perfect. It is designed to be fire resistant and will in fact withstand the power of a Tornado, if lashed down.
First Level with Sheeting |
(continued) The Lighthouse will be moved to Vaughan Mills Mall once it it complete. What is its job? It will promote Bruce County Tourism and our Heritage.
It's an interesting structure consisting of hexagonal platforms and sides tapering at an angle of 81 degrees to the top with some windows. The hexagon is a particularly strong and space utilizing shape as can be seen from the Bee Hive (see exhibit at the Bruce County Museum about Bees and also Magical Pattern Wizardry at the Museum )
Looking up from the Interior ... note Hexagon
