Township applies for grant to put addition on Lucknow arena

Huron-Kinloss council has agreed to join Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh on an application for funding to put an addition on the Lucknow and District Sports Complex.

At the meeting Wednesday night (May 20), the township approved the project as one of three under the Recreation Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program which provides two-thirds of the cost from the federal and provincial governments.

Council also agreed to apply for funds to renovate the Point Clark Community Centre and the Ripley-Huron Community Centre.

*Council turned down a funding request from the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation.

*The proposal for replacing the Purple Grove bridge was sent back to the public works department for another option because the $363,000 cost is too high.

*Council approved purchasing a front-mount mower at a cost of $17,700 from Work Equipment Ltd., well within the budget of $20,000. It also approved the purchase of a three-foot-by-eight-foot steel skateboard ramp from Belair Recreation Products, at a cost of $4,856.80.

*The township has hired Shea Hamilton of Lucknow to conduct an energy audit over the summer, at a cost of $7,500.

*Council awarded the tender for road work on Clyde Street in Lucknow, to Kurtis Smith Excavating, at a price of $165,900.
*The township rejected a resolution from Essa Township, petitioning the provincial government to establish a review process for annual salaries over $500,000 in the Ontario public service sector or any affiliated organization, to justify these salaries to the residents of Ontario.
