The Tiverton Old Boys and Girls Reunion committee wants the Municipality of Kincardine to ante up with a grant of $50,000 to kick off fund-raising efforts for the event, slated for July 31-Aug. 3, 2009.

The item was deleted from the Nov. 19 Kincardine council meeting but the agenda states the Community, Heritage, Arts and Tourism (CHAT) committee has recommended the $50,000 grant and requested council give it pre-budget approval.

Staff pointed out the following grants for similar events in the past:

  • $15,000 plus the use of the Underwood Hall for two dinners without charge for the 2006 Bruce Township Reunion;
  • $19,700 and a loan of $22,000 which has been repaid for the 2008 Kincardine Old Boys and Girls Reunion.

"Therefore, it would seem more reasonable to consider a grant for the Tiverton Old Boys and Girls Reunion in an amount closer to $10,000 based on its population, compared to previous grants," states the staff report.

The population share of the municipality (based on population stats, 1996, Stats Canada): Town of Kincardine, 55% (6,620); Kincardine Township, 25% (2,954); Bruce Township, 13% (1,510); Village of Tiverton, 7% (824).

The staff report recommended council consider pre-budget approval in the amount of $10,000.

The issue was deleted from the agenda and not discussed.
