The Mammoth Parade was the highlight of the festivities Saturday during the Tiverton Reunion.

About 70 entries marched from the west end of the village through to the fairgrounds, including marching bands, pipe bands, clowns, Shriners on mini-bikes and in golf carts and on a grandiose locomotive, floats, cars, trucks, tractors, a snowmobile, and teams of horses.

The parade route was crowded with people for the event, despite the hot, windy conditions.

Jackie Peters was glad to be home for the reunion. The daughter of Bruce and Jean Sayle of Tiverton, now lives in Scotland with her husband and two daughters. The girls, Ava, 8, and Abigail, 11, joined the musicians and dancer Georgia Morris, 13, onboard the Tiverton and District Ratepayers' Association float in the parade.

"We live in Edinburgh," says Jackie. "It's so nice to be home for this major event, and the girls are so thrilled to be riding on a float."

Her paternal grandmother was from Scotland and while Jackie enjoys living there, she likes to return to Canada once a year. Her father lives in Kincardine now.
"It's great to see everybody and visit with family and friends," she says. "There are so many familiar faces."

The Tiverton Reunion officially opened Friday night, followed by a teen dance, and a dance to the music of Little Rock.

Saturday morning began with a breakfast sponsored by GoodTimers Hockey, the Deep Geologic Repository mobile exhibit, mud volleyball tournament, bike and car show and shine, and the inflatable fun park.

Following the parade, event included Circus Jonathan, Buttons the Clown, a multi-cultural band performance, school reunion, martial arts demonstration, bike skills demonstrations, mechanical bull, jubilee, and a dance to CrazyMaker.

The reunion continues Sunday and Monday.
