The highlight of the final day of the Tiverton Reunion was the bed
races Monday afternoon.
The rigs came in a variety of styles and colours: one was a box
spring on wheels with a GT Racer on top pulled by four strong men,
another was a board on three wheels with complicated steering gear,
and yet another was an actual bed with headboard mounted on four
bicycle tires.
There were two categories: under 18, and over 18, with several teams
in each. Each team consisted of five people - one to steer and four
to push or pull depending on the contraption. They had to haul the
bed from the starting point to a barrel, go around the barrel and
come back to the finish line.
The results were hilarious as some beds and teams were more agile
and faster than others.
Besides the bed races, the day included a road hockey tournament in
the morning, music to the Boys from the Bruce and Breakwater Blues
Band in the afternoon, and the closing ceremonies at 4:30 p.m.
