The number
It would seem that the number eleven (11) seems to have a very significant mark in history.

As we approach November 11th, we have to consider a date that changed the world ...
the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (Remembrance Day), a time when the world laid down arms and  young soldiers headed for home. 

Then, there was the tragic 11th day of September (9-11) that no one will ever forget, world wide.

 Not only did Americans lose their lives in the World Trade Centre, but, among them, were people from many countries, including Canada.

Last, but far from least, is the greatest election of our time ... the election of an Afro-American to the office of President of the United States.  The official announcement was made in the 11th hour of the 11th month.

Does the number 11 have significance in history?  It would appear so.
