The 1st Annual Mad Hatter's Tea Party sponsored by the Southampton Art School was a resounding success over the March break.  Over a dozen children took part in a variety of activities, including crafts with Tanya Weichel and theatre with Carol Vaughn, at the Southampton Town Hall.

The week-long event wound up with a play on Friday afternoon based on the popular Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter Tea Party.  Weichel, a well-know artist and instructor, had each participant create a hat while Carol Vaughn, a theatre producer, had them all take part in a stage production.

"This is the first time the Art School has tried this," say Vaughn and Weichel, "and we look forward to it becoming an annual event.  Creativity is extremely important for young people, whether it's through creating a craft using their imaginations or taking part in a theatre-related endeavour that builds self-esteem."
