Greenhouse News Winter is only a blip on the radar for most horticulturalists. At SDSS, The Horticulture Club is already working hard for the Valentine's Day sale and their regular spring extravaganza of plants to be held May 8, 15, 22n and 29. These sales feature more than spring shoots ... they include decorative baskets, planers, hanging baskets, ornamental grasses and even vegetables! Heritage Garden Project All it take is a few hours once in a while and you, too, can help make our school grounds a place to be proud of! The Heritage Garden Project is a not only a way to show school pride, it's also a way to earn your community service hours, meet new people and learn a little something about the plants that play an important part in all our lives and futures. Guess what? We breathe oxygen. Guess what? Plants give off oxygen. Without them...we don't exist!!! So, come on out and learn first-hand, (and yes your hands will get
dirty) about plants, how to enhance the local biodiversity, how to help
restore the ecology and naturalize the school grounds. Contact Mrs.
Darlington-Smith. |

Cape Croker First Nations Cross Country Ski Team For more information see the Editorial Page __________________ News From SDSS Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS) is set to launch a new education planning tool. MyBlueprint Education Planner will help students in grades seven to 12 create an interactive Annual Education Plan (AEP). It is anticipated that with the plan they can build customized high school course plans and identify the post-secondary pathways that are available to them. This is not just about going to university although that too is part of it. It is also discovering what apprenticeship and college programs are open to them across Canada. Parents can also become more informed and involved in their children's education. 'Log in and Learn' ... become aware of courses, diploma requirements and the almost limitless options available. There is also a 'myProfile feature' that will allow users to record multiple plans, programs of interest, exploration activities and goals for future reference. Encounters with Canada his one week excursion to the Terry Fox Canadian Youth Centre in
Ottawa has been described by many former attendees as the best week of
their high school life. Students come together from every province and
territory to attend a theme of their choice that include things such as
Arts & Culture, Business & Entrepreneurship, Sports & Fitness, Science &
Technology, Law or Medicine & Health. The program is open to all
students from 14 to 17 and cost $625.00 with all additional travel
expenses covered by a grant from Exchanges Canada. |
