New Steelback beer tap handles shaped like the Kincardine Lighthouse

Steelback Brewery is showing its hometown colours by unveiling new beer tap handles in the shape of the Kincardine Lighthouse.

Installed for the first time Friday afternoon at The Bruce Bar and Grill in downtown Kincardine, the local icon stands atop six different brands available on tap: Draught, Light, Lager, Red Maple, Honey Brown and Dark.

"We said from Day One that we would pay tribute to the region where we're from," said Steelback president Ian MacDonald. "The Kincardine Lighthouse is on all of our packaging. It's our icon and we want to showcase it (on the tap handles)."

He said when people are checking out what the local bars have on tap, they'll see the Kincardine Lighthouse and want to try the local beer. "Now, let's hope for a nice hot summer so we can sell lots of Steelback beer," he said.

The project began in January with the design phase which was approved, followed by a mock-up with the colours which also had to be approved, said MacDonald. "We wanted to have a light revolving at the top but the technology does not yet exist to do that," he said. "We want the tap handles to shine the light on good beer from Steelback."

"We're honoured to have the new tap handles," said Brad Kirkconnell of The Bruce Bar and Grill. "We sell a lot of Steelback and we're proud of our local product. It's part of our family business to sell local products."
