The Southport Club of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) presents "U.N. Resolutions and Women in Afghanistan," a free lecture Oct. 14, 8 p.m. at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.

Canadian journalist Jim Reed has worked as a researcher, writer, producer, director, reporter and news anchor for CTV, TVO and CBC. He has freelanced for The Associated Press, The New York Times, The Globe and Mail and other news organizations. He is also a three-time Gemini Award winner and a recipient of the "Gordon Sinclair Award for Excellence in Broadcasting."

CFUW is a non-profit, self-funded national organization of 10,000 women university and college graduates active in raising awareness about social, economic and legal status of women as well as educational, environmental and human rights issues.

Founded in 1919, CFUW is recognized as a non-government organization (NGO) with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council Commission on the Status of Women. It is also affiliated with International Federation of Women headquartered in Switzerland with 180,000 global members.

CFUW Southport celebrates its 20th anniversary honouring Women Around the World – Peace, Poverty and Politics. The 40-member Club also awards three scholarships yearly to female graduates from Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin entering post-secondary institutions.
