Southampton's 150th Meets to Plan Events
|
Southampton's 150th Anniversary Committee is meeting Thursday night at
the Chantry Centre to determine what the various events planned
throughout the year will require in the way of financing. Although the event was recently awarded a grant of $94,800, it is anticipated that fundraising and sponsorhip will go foward. "This grant from the Federal Government," says Joanne Robbins of the Chamber of Commerce, "is over and above what we expect to raise. The money is earmarked for those involved in cultural events, such as musicians; some will go to the Museum to help with productions; part will go toward creating a lasting legacy that may take the form of signage. According to Committee Media Relations spokesman, Duncan McCallum, earlier this week, "... part will go toward the salary of the new person [Events Coordinator] being hired." It is hoped that Thursday's meeting, the first since the grant was announced, will throw more light on where the grant money will be spent. |
