The Southampton Residents Association (SRA) will be publishing a set of news items in the Saugeen Times on a continuing basis.  The purpose is to bring before the residents of the entire community including all of Saugeen Shores the items that SRA is working on currently.  SRA will submit the issues in a general way and then detail what studies are being undertaken by the Town, SRA and others regarding them

The Mission of the SRA includes:

  • Addressing ratepayers concerns with all levels of government.
  • Protecting and enhancing the unique nature of  Southampton within Saugeen Shores
  • Promoting appropriate planning and development within the community.

From time to time the SRA invites the Mayor, Ward Council Members, other Council members, Staff Officials and other group chairs to the regular board meetings and annual meeting.  SRA also promotes submissions by experts on particular subjects.

The SRA Goals are:

  • Preservation of beaches and water quality

  • Municipal tax monitoring and control

  • Budget planning submissions in concert with the SRA mission

  • Official Plan submissions and monitoring

  • Winter patrol for SRA members who wish it.

  • Promoting and supporting local business

Current Issues Under Study

  • Rail Trail/Highway 21 Crossing

  • Signage and Gateway Signs

  • Garbage collection and long term perspectives on land fill issues

  • Southampton High Street Business Promotion

  • By-Law Enforcement

  • Long Term Debt

  • Water Quality

  • Traffic

  • Municipal Property Assessment

Accomplishments:

  • Comprehensive Official Plan Submissions

  • Beach and Water Quality studies including paid for studies by Lake Huron experts

  • Successful lobbying for a By-Law Officer

  • Successful lobbying for development charges

  • Support of the 150th program

  • Lobbying the Provincial Market Value Assessment Plan for equity

  • Overall monitoring of Council and Planning meetings by membership (we cover them in person or on TV)

  • Organized planning to assist the town on issues of traffic, budget control and improved communication with residents

  • Regular newsletters and submissions for publication in the Saugeen Times on a regular basis.
