Southampton Community Band Performs on December 3rd

Under the direction of Kent and Kerrie Lynn Boys, the Southampton Community Band treated the standing-room only audience to an evening of holiday music on Wednesday, December 3rd at the old Town Hall in Southampton.

The Community Band of more than 60 musicians is made up of people of all ages from the town of Southampton. Grandparents, parents and children all play together, many playing an instrument for the very first time in their lives.
"In only six years," says Kent Boys, "we've become a band that can play almost any piece with a little practice."

Some members of the band, who also play in the offshoot Southampton Jazz Band, opened the concert with 'seasonal' music, such as the theme from The Grinch.

In addition, the Southampton Chimes Choir, under the leadership of Jean Beaton, performed a number of selections including the traditional 'In the Bleak Mid-Winter' and a piece from The Nutcracker.

The evening wound up with a traditional sing-along directed by Kerrie Lynn Boys with Kent Boys urging the audience to sing louder.
