If there is one thing Peter McElwain, owner of the new Shoppers Drug Mart in Port Elgin is adamant about, it's customer service.

"We know we're the new kid on the block but we also want to be the best when it comes to meeting the needs of the people of Saugeen Shores," he says.

Adjacent to The Plex on Hwy. 21 at Port Elgin, the store's expansive parking lot could easily have been exposed to passers-by when it was designed. Instead, it was trastefully incorporated into the overall design and fenced with esthetically pleasing black wrought iron interspersed with red brick pillars.

Entering the store, you are immediately struck by the ultra modern concept. Light blue with buttery yellow walls, the interior is bright and spacious with wide aisles and tile floors interspersed with primary colour ... all adding up to an overall cheerful ambience.

The layout is sectioned in easy-to-find departments, one of which is the most extensive array of cosmetics and fragrances in the area. There is something for almost everyone, from a Healthwatch pharmacy to a post office and groceries to photo development and books.

"Many people may not realize it," says McElwain, "but they can easily have their prescriptions transferred here from wherever they are and, most prescriptions can also be filled on-line (store number 1370) or by phone at 519-832-3196."

The overall friendliness is evident and Peter McElwain's focus on customer service seems to be well on its way.
