Arthur Haley
The issue was brought to light recently at the Bluewater Board of
Education meeting when a
contingency of veterans
from the Wiarton Legion presented a deputation.
Arthur Haley, who spoke for the veterans, raised several valuable points
relating to the benefits of teaching public speaking to students. (see
previous article)
Principal Patricia Cavan said that it had been a school decision to
discontinue the program and that it had not been handed down by the
Board. "We decided last year not to participate but to focus on other
areas of the curriculum as it takes too much time to support it.
Unfortunately, it went ahead last year anyway, but it won't this year."
She did say however, that the school would continue to attend the
Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11th.
