SRA seeks new members this fall and winter

The Southampton Residents Association is looking for new members.  Currently there are about 350 households who are members.

The SRA has been very active lately.  They were concerned with the possible closing of the Southampton Hospital Emergency and did the following:

  • Board members attended the LHIN meeting in Owen Sound and asked questions of LHIN and also of Maureen Solecki.   This meeting was covered by the Saugeen Times and you can read the details by clicking here.
  • Board members subsequently met with Health Care experts and the Mayor to seek their advice and council.
  • Later Board Members  met with Carol Mitchell MPP who welcomed their input.   She was active in the process, which resulted in a reprieve

The Board of Directors has standing committees or active groups working on the following:

  • Monitoring and advising Town Officials on finances.  Board members have met with Town staff and have received good information from them.  This is an ongoing process.
  • The SRA has taken an active position in Water Quality and has met with the Town Staff on a number of occasions.  SRA has also commissioned studies by professionals in the field like  the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation
  • The SRA attended and contributed to the Saugeen Shores Official Plan on a very active basis and will work on the new plan
  • Traffic
  • The future of signage.   The SRA worked actively to insure that the Tim Horton's sign was appropriate and in keeping with the community.  They will work in the future on a more comprehensive bylaw.


The SRA has also have been involved in the following:

  • Support of Southampton 150th in terms of volunteers and financial support.
  • Money for the playground at Jubilee Park.
  • Money for the Streetscape Period Lighting.
  • Produces a regular newsletter
  • Holds an annual Golf Tourney to support projects for Southampton
  • Holds an annual general meeting attended by Town Officials and residents.
  • Meets regularly with Port Elgin groups

The SRA also has an active winter patrol available for their membership.

The long range Mission of the SRA is:

  • Addressing residents concerns at all levels of government.
  • Promoting appropriate planning and development
  • Protecting the unique character of Southampton within Saugeen Shores.
  • Supporting local business
