It's now a spring completion date for the downtown
beautification of Ripley. At the general committee meeting Dec. 1,
council heard that due to weather conditions, the project has been
delayed.
Public works director Hugh Nichol said outstanding issues include the
pouring of new sidewalk on the south side of Queen Street, between
Melville Lane and MacDonald Street; and the paving of parking
boulevards: on the north side of Queen Street, from the main
intersection west to the village limits; on the south side of Queen
Street, between Huron and MacDonald Streets; and on the east side of
Huron Street adjacent to Lewis Park.
Nichol said that depending on the amount of snow accumulation, Bruce
County Highways will fill in with gravel the "behind the curb area" on
the south side of Queen Street, between MacDonald and Huron, to help the
township with snow removal and provide downtown parking. "The township
is unable to clear the area on a daily basis and without the use of
Lewis Park as a snow dump area, the township has been restricted in the
removal of snow from the entire downtown core area," he said.

"Cardinal Traffic Systems Ltd. will attempt to complete
the streetlight and traffic signal installations, or at least install
the lighting fixtures on the new streetlight poles already in place,"
Nichol added. "The project was delayed five weeks because the
streetlight poles were back-ordered."
"It'll all be pretty in the spring," quipped councillor Jim Hanna.
