Reynolds & Meyer

Rev. Keith Reynolds (L) and Father Peter Meyer There was a time, and in many communities there still is, when the different churches within Christianity did not co-mingle, either in their congregations or their doctrines. Today, however, that kind of thinking is changing. In Saugeen Shores, Father Peter Meyer of the Roman Catholic Church and Reverend Keith Reynolds of Southampton United are working together to bring the communities from various faiths together. "It's all about building bridges," explains Father Meyer. "It's a good thing when the peoples of a community come together to talk about issues and beliefs. In a city, that can be difficult to do but in a smaller centre, I think it's important that we know each other and get along." On Friday, approximately 30 people from across Saugeen Shores came together at Southampton United Church to, once again, have an open discussion on the merits of the teachings of Jean Vanier. Vanier is the founder of L'Arche Homes that focuses on helping those who are physically and mentally challenged reach their individual potential and to support them in their everyday living. The one-hour discussions each Friday at 11:00 a.m., until March 14th , are open to the public at Southampton United Church.
