It was a typical cold, rainy Nov. 11 for Remembrance Day in
Kincardine.
The service was held at 10 a.m. in the Legion, with Rev. Jim Weir,
Kincardine Legion chaplain, bringing the meditation.
The crowd then gathered outside for the cenotaph service. Once the
colour party was in place, Charles Mann began reading out the names of
organizations which had donated wreaths, and representatives placed them
in front of the cenotaph.
At 11 a.m., the laying of wreaths was halted for the singing of 'O
Canada' led by Norman Dunsmoor, the playing of 'Last Post' by Ron
Neyvatte on trumpet, and observance of two minutes of silence in memory
of those who had died and in honour of those who had served in the two
World Wars, the Korean Conflict, and those serving in Afghanistan and in
Peacekeeping missions around the world.
This was followed by 'The Lament' played by piper Jennifer Farrell of
the Kincardine Scottish, and 'Reveille' by Neyvatte. Laying of wreaths
continued and the crowd watched somberly as the small bit of sunshine
disappeared and it began to rain. Everyone was invited inside for
coffee and hot chocolate; they were asked to pin their poppies on the
white cross at the front of the Legion Hall on the way in.
The service closed with 'God Save the Queen' and Legion members then
boarded a bus for the cenotaph service in Tiverton, slated for 12:10
p.m.
