Judging a prize-winning meatloaf is harder than it appears,
as the Southampton Legion 'taste judges' found out on Saturday.
The Legion held a dance and meatloaf cook-off, with 13 entries
that were judged in a 'blind' tasting. The three judges, Peggy
Buckton, John Lightfoot and John MacAuley sampled each meatloaf,
identified by number only. "This is really hard," said judge,
John MacAuley. "Yeah," said Lightfoot, "they are all really
good."
After several samplings, the judges finally came to a conclusion
and were united in their votes as they came up with three
winners. First place winner was Rose Shular who entered a unique
'Greek' meatloaf that won hands-down. Second place winner was
Bob Buckton and third was Robin Kingston.
While meatloaf was the main event, the band Cheyenne also had
everyone up dancing throughout the afternoon and early evening. (next column)
