Port Elgin United Church Tea 2008

As the holiday season draws near, many organizations try to raise as many funds as possible to help various causes. The United Church Women (UCW) of Port Elgin United Church held their annual Christmas Tea to do just that.

Held on Saturday, November 22nd, the Port Elgin church hosted the annual tea and bake sale. The monies raised go toward organizations such as Women's House of Bruce County, the Salvation Army, World Vision's Adopt a Child program, Hug-a-Bears, Silver Lake Camp in addition to making donations to several local retirement homes such as Hampton Court, Elgin Lodge and Southampton Care Centre.

According to Cathy Lavigne of the UCW, "We have many church projects and 50 to 60 members to carry them out through organizing various fundraising activities. We have approximately four groups with over a dozen members in each and we are always looking for new members."
