20 May 2008 18 May 2008 - officers of the Saugeen Shores Police, auxiliary, community watch, OPP and Ministry of Natural Resources patrolled the Annual River Run on the Saugeen River. 10 tickets were issued for lack of safety equipment. More people this year were observed to be wearing life jackets. There were no reports of people in distress or requiring medical attention. 17 May 2008, COPS WASHING DOGS FOR TITAN On Saturday May 17, 2008, the Saugeen Shores Police Association officers washed dogs at the SUNSET CAR & PET WASH, 899 Goderich St. Port Elgin. The wash facility was donated to the Saugeen Shores Police Service from 12:00 noon until 3:00 pm. for fund raising to help with the treatment of TITAN. 100% of all donations will go to TITAN’s treatment. Through pet washes, sales of T shirts and donations including one donation of $500. and two donations of $100. each, the officers raised $2753.16. 18 May 08 and 19 May 08 officers of the Saugeen Shores Police Service and the area Ontario Provincial Police worked together to patrol our area roads for traffic infractions. 18 May 08, officers conducted RIDE throughout Saugeen Shores, no infractions. 18 May 08 a 28 year old Kitchener male was charged with street racing on County Rd #3. He was clocked traveling 166 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, his vehicle was seized and his licence was suspended for 7 days. Nine complaints were received over the weekend of people setting off fireworks in contravention of the by-law. One person was charged for setting fireworks off from the roof of a downtown Port Elgin business. A convenience Store Variety Store in Southampton charged with selling fireworks without having obtained a proper permit from the Town to sell fireworks. 18 May 08, police attended to an ATV accident in Saugeen Township, A 40 year old Waterdown male was injured when he rolled his ATV. Once released from hospital for treating a shoulder injury he was arrested for impaired driving. His readings were almost 3 times the legal limit. 18 May 08, police attended to a motor vehicle accident on Caroline St in Southampton. The driver, a 22 year old Saugeen Shores male was taken to hospital with a cut to his hand. After treatment he was arrested for impaired driving. 16 May 08, at 10:56 pm two 18 year old Stratford males were arrested for Public Intoxication and lodged in the cells. One of the males was walking down the middle of Goderich St. then both were located at Hortons in an intoxicated condition. 17 May 08 12:03 am police attended to a disturbance on King St in Port Elgin. The situation calmed down but police were called to return at 1:10 am to a fight. Three males were arrested. An 18 year old Waterloo man, a 17 year old Saugeen First Nation man, and a 17 year old Saugeen Shores male were charged with Causing a Disturbance by Fighting. |
(continued) 16 May 08, at 9:21 pm a Port Elgin resident called police to report a female on their porch taking plants. A 30 year old Walkerton female was arrested for theft and public intoxication. In the cells she ripped the rubber mattress with her teeth and was further charged with mischief. 14 May 08 at 1:51 pm police attended to SDSS in Port Elgin to a report of a person who was intoxicated and trespassing. Police arrested an 18 year old Saugeen Shores male and as he was being handcuffed he fled the area. Police pursued but could not locate this person. Later some residents of the area located this person and held for police. The male is charged with breaching probation, escape custody, trespassing. 14 May 08, 11:18 pm, a male and female were located at the corner of Goderich and Green St in a highly intoxicated condition. Police suggested they call a taxi to get home safely. The two became belligerent and were arrested for public intoxication for their own safety. 15 May 08, 1:37 am. police observed an intoxicated male at the corner of Gustavus and Goderich St, the male yelled at the cruiser as it passed. Police spoke this male and a male accompanying him .Both were intoxicated and the second male was on release conditions not to consume alcohol. A 50 year old male was arrested for public intoxication and a 24 year old Ingersoll male was arrested for public intoxication and breaching release conditions. 16 May 08 police responded to a break and enter that occurred overnight at the Anglican Church on Mill St in Port Elgin. A neighbour noticed the front door open in the morning. There was no signs of forced entry, there was a smashed beer bottle located inside. Nothing appears to have been taken. This does not appear to be related to the recent break and enters to churches. No suspects. 16 May 08, police conducted a RIDE program throughout Saugeen Shores. 7 Highway Traffic Act warning were given, 1 roadside test was performed. 14 May 08, Sergeant Dale attended GC Huston PS to speak about Bicycle Safety. 15 May 08 Sergeant Dale attended St Josephs School and GC Huston School to speak to the Senior K class about Elmer the Safety Elephant rules. 18 May 08, 03:42, a 23 year old Bridgenorth male was located on Mill St in Port Elgin, he was in a highly intoxicated condition and could not indicate where he lived. He was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in the cell. 18 May 08, police conducted RIDE throughout Saugeen Shores. HTA warnings given. 19 May 08, at 2:55 am a 16 year old Hanover youth was observed walking on Green St drinking a beer, this youth was charged.19 May 08, police attended to a Break and Enter at Pipers Glen Golf Course. Two lap tops, and two safes were stolen. The break in occurred sometime overnight, the alarm system was disabled. Entry was gained by forcing a door open. Both safes were very heavy and required several people to move them. No estimate of value is yet known.
