Legault's Independent Grocers is about to begin a program to
encourage the use of cloth bags or bins as an alternative to plastic
bags.
"We are trying to help reduce or eliminate the plastic bags that are
ending up in the landfill," explains Marcel Legault. "We will start
charging five cents a bag for plastic bags on April 22nd, Earth Day.
Prior to that, all PC reusable bags will be 50 per cent (50%) off
from April 16 to 26 to encourage people to stock up on the cloth
bags."
On April 7th, the Sea Cadets will also be doing the annual garbage
clean-up on the property around the store. In return for their help,
Legault's always make a sizeable donation to the Cadets and there is
a pizza party afterward in the store's Community Room. (next column)
