There
are two people you should always develop a personal service relationship
with ... your family doctor and your pharmacist.
When pharmacist, Trevor Wardrop and his mother, Vi, purchased Houston's
Pharmasave in Port Elgin approximately eight years ago, they were
determined to focus on patient care and customer service.
Trevor Wardrop, who understands accessibility issues first-hand, set
about making sure that the store was more accessible to those with
physical challenges by lowering the pharmacy counter, widening the
aisles and installing automatic doors.
Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Port Elgin, Wardrop
Pharmasave is a registered member of the Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
and the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
"We now have a mobility division, Wardrop Home Health and Mobility, only
four doors away from our Pharmasave store," explains Trevor Wardrop. "We
carry aids to living, such as scooters, crutches, rolaltors, canes and
lift chairs - all on a sales and rental basis. We can also access
hospital beds, bath accessories, commodes and even offer wheelchair
rentals, sales and service. Mobility is the key to independence and we
do all we can to help those with mobility challenges." (next column)

Trevor Wardrop has also been a teaching assistant at the
University of Toronto, working with young pharmacists to become more
professional in their field. As an active business owner, he has also
spoken at the Ontario Legislature on Bill 102 and the impact it has on
pharmacies in the province.
In addition to a full prescription pharmacy, they also carry a wide
range of beauty cosmetics, hygiene products, daily-living items and
giftware. The store is also a distributor of CanEva products.
"The aspect I enjoy most about owning our own business," adds Vi Wardrop,
"is that it allows us the freedom to ensure we can provide the best
possible service for our customers."
That commitment to service has not only had a direct impact on the care
of their customers but has also resulted in the Wardrops receiving
recognition from their community and the national Drugstore Outstanding
Service Awards (DOSA). In 2003, Trevor Wardrop won a national DOSA Aware
and then, in 2006, they were presented with the Business of the Year,
Corporate Award from Saugeen Shores' Chamber of Commerce and Vi Wardrop
won the Honourable Mention Award from DOSA.
Unlike many big box drugstores, the Wardrops take pride in the fact that
they personally know most of their customers and are helping those in
their own community. "We're helping our friends and neighbours - it
doesn't get any better than that."
