Tonight, marked 150 years since Southampton was declared a
town.
To commemorate the occasion, everyone was invited to attend an opening
ceremony at the flag located at the foot of High Street where Neil
Menage, in his role of Town Crier, announced the official event.
Following the meeting at the flag, a parade followed to the Town Hall
where a renactment play was performed.
Today's Town Council took part in the play that saw the founding fathers
of Southampton carry out their duties of more than a century earlier.
Everyone then marched to the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre
for a reception where the Saugeen First Nations also performed in dance
and drumming.
The Celebrations continue until the culmination during the week of
August 14th.
