As part of the celebration, Ron Oswald, a volunteer from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) attended the event to highlight a three-year, $43,800 grant made to the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) for their 114KM Project. OTF is an agency of the Government of Ontario. "This grant will allow Saugeen Economic Development Corporation the ability to produce more publicity and advertising for the region. This isn't just a grant for business, culture or education; it is an overall grant to increase the awareness of the region and what unique benefits they have," says Bill Murdoch, MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound This grant and project will allow staff at the Museum and the SEDC to work with community partners and area businesses and producers to develop and implement a strategy that promotes Bruce County food producers, retailers and caterers at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre and other community venues. Commissioned by the Museum and created by environmental archaeologist Dr. Peter Storck, the Earth's Climate in the Balance exhibit is sponsored by the Ontario Power Generation, and funded and supported by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund and the McLean Foundation. It opens to the public on July 5. The extraordinary exhibit looks at the big picture on climate change - What is it really? Did you know that we've always had climate change here on Earth? In fact there has been 4.6 billion years of change! Earth’s Climate in the Balance not only looks at the history of climate on our planet, but also inspires the public to ask, "So what's next? And what can I do?"

(continued) Dr. Peter Storck, with three decades of experience with the ROM, was commissioned by the Museum to create the 40-panel exhibit complete with several interactive components. This fascinating and highly visual and interactive exhibit offers answers to many questions on this timely topic. Storck expects people will be enlightened by the scale of climate change in relation to the immense age of the earth. "This exhibit should put global warming in context - it isn't anything new under the sun, but has been happening for years," said Storck. "We won't destroy the earth. We may destroy ourselves, but in the big picture of climate change, we are one generation in a world that is billions of years old." Following the exhibit's theme of being environmentally conscious and aware, the staff at the Museum arranged that Bruce County based producers, retailers and caterers showcase their finest locally produced products and services to those attending the launch event.
