As it was in Southampton's beginning
It was horse-drawn wagon rides, crafts and
old-time music on Saturday afternoon, December 6th, in Southampton.
The Bruce Country Museum & Cultural Centre held its old-fashioned
'Memories of Christmas', where more than 100 people experienced family
Christmas activities of a by-gone era.
The children took part in a variety of crafts including painting and
handweaving upstairs while on the main level, George Watkey on the
filldle and Maxine Ribey on piano entertained with holiday music and
Christmas carols. Some of those taking part were visitors who had come
from communities across Bruce and Grey Counties.
Liz Ritchie and her Clydsdale horses conducted tours around Southampton
by wagon, a first for many. One little passenger piped up asking, "If
all the gas in the world disappears, is this how we're gonna have to
travel?"
According to Nancy White, Program Coordinator, "This is the most
successful 'Family Christmas' celebration we have had. We had 120 people
booked and that doesn't include any walk-ins, so it's wonderful! It's
especially wonderful for the little ones to experience this kind of
history that many of the great-grandparents lived through."
