OVER HERE: WOMEN, WORK AND WWII at the Bruce County Museum. Also see Contemporary Textile Art Goes on Exhibit at Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre from October 19th to November 30th It is well known that women contributed mightily to the war effort in WWII. In the UK, Canada and the United States women took the places of men who left for service in Europe and the Far East. They did all manner of jobs in factories and farms and opening up for post WWII women whole new careers. In Russia women did factory work and also fought at the front and served many roles behind the lines. 13/01/2009 04:24 PM |
Of course on both sides of that terrible conflict, women served as nurses and doctors. One strange aspect of the conflagration was that Nazi Germany did not address the work and fighting potential of women. For some twisted reason, Hitler, in particular, did not want women to be used in areas of great importance until it was too late and the entire nation was consumed in ruin and flames. The Japanese were not anxious to use women in any significant role either. Make sure you make the Bruce County Museum a stop for you and your family.
