Saugeen Shores Town Council officially approved the two logos
created by Brad Smith of Lucid Graphic Solutions for Port Elgin
and Southampton of Saugeen Shores.
After several months of public meetings and input, a separate
logo for each community, was designed to depict the most
frequently voiced features. For Port Elgin, it was the beach,
sunsets, water ... a summer theme. Southampton already had its
branding or logo, Chantry Island Lighthouse, which was only
slightly modified. The colours of each logo are slightly
different but complementary reflecting the colours of sun, sky
and water.
The only councillor to raise any questions was Jane Barber.
Barber said that she would also like to see a third new logo
encompassing Saugeen Shores. "I like the strength and colours in
the new logos but feel that a new Saugeen Shores logo should be
considered."

Councillor Luke Charbonneau agreed with Barber. "I think
we have to look at it very seriously from a strong marketing aspect.
These logos are going to be on directional signage and gateway signs.
It's important to promote Saugeen Shores as a whole but we can also
market each community separately. I do know that the Chamber finds this
an exciting marketing step and I think Brad Smith deserves our thanks."
The logos will now be forwarded to Corbin Design in an attempt to
develop gateway sign renderings for Council's consideration.
Funding for Phase 1 of the New Signage construction and installation is
$75,000, which is included in the Draft 2009 Capital Budget submission
based on Corbin Design's preliminary figures.
