It may have been cold and rainy outside, but it was warm and inviting inside at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre Friday night (Oct. 2) where Cynthia Wickert was crowned the new Tiverton Fair ambassador.

She was among seven contestants who sported casual outfits from Baxter's Row Fashion in Kincardine, and later paraded in evening wear, also from Baxter's Row, when they had to respond to impromptu questions, posed by MC John Divinski.

Cynthia is the daughter of Allen and Melissa Wickert of Kincardine. A student at KDSS, she plans to take veterinary studies at the University of Guelph. She enjoys horseback riding, swimming and running and is involved in the student council and 4-H.

She will now spend the year, representing the Tiverton Agricultural Society at several events including the CNE.

Brittany Quipp won the Friendship Award, while Shelby Simmons was first runner-up, and Kelsey Young was second runner-up. The remaining candidates included Kerri Adams, Caitlin Young, and Cristina Young.

Last year's ambassador, Carly Hunter, thanked the agricultural society for all the support she received over the past year.

Owen Kirk, son of Kevin and Denise Kirk of Tiverton, was crowned Prince of the Fair, while Rayanne Takken, daughter of Ray and Mary Anne Takken of Glammis, was crowned Princess. The competition was sponsored by Bluewater Sanitation.

Entertainment for the evening was supplied by Tiverton Idol winners Danika Wall, Marc Glipo, Katelyn Brewer and Tiffany Price.

Another highlight was the auction of about a dozen prize-winning cakes and pies. The crowd was worked over by auctioneer Rodney Ribey, raising a total of $1,260 for agricultural society events. An apple pie, made by Debi Johnson, brought in $200, while a pecan pie, made by Islay Eby, was auctioned off for $240.
