When Southampton United Church undertook some renovations recently, a wooden box was discovered secretly encased in a column.

The box was not only sealed, it was soldered shut and had to be carefully cut open.  Members of the congregation knew that there may be special contents and what they discovered was that it was, in fact, a time capsule. 

The Southampton United Church congregation of 25 years ago decided to put memorabilia in the box ... old photos, old service programs and newspapers.

The children of the congregation were particularly curious about the contents.  Since its opening, it was decided that items from today would be put into the box and it would again be secreted away for future generations to find.
