Volunteers gathered at 'The Boathouse' in Southampton for the annual Volunteer Appreciation night

The Marine Heritage Society-Propeller Club held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night on Wednesday at The Boathouse in Southampton.

The event is held each year to recognize the many hours that volunteers contribute to the Chantry Island Lighthouse project. Several volunteers act as guides on the many tours that take visitors to the Island aboard the boat 'the Peerless'. Others maintain the inside of the lighthouse, the Keeper's Quarters and the surrounding grounds.

Chantry Island Lighthouse restoration project, that began in 1997, has been carried out entirely by a volunteer commitment of thousands of hours, and has been self-sufficient based on the tours and the Tour Base Gift Shop revenue.
