The local connection comes from Chantry Island Light.  The Marine Heritage Society and Propeller Club took on the restoration of the Light on Chantry in 1997 and it is now known, world wide, as a fantastic success story.  Why?

The project started with no money, no grants and just a lot of hard work ahead.  Once the 'crew' got going there was a strange magic about the entire project.  It took on a life of its own and the rest of Canada and the world began to think it was possible for a volunteer group and a small community to do a project like this.  In no small way was this forgotten by those in charge.

Barry MacDonald came here in 2006 for the International Lighthouse Conference and this allowed him to network with other Lighthouse lovers from around Canada and the world. A sustained and well thought out argument was raised.  The result was the act as passed.  Congratulations are due to the people involved and the lawmakers for paying attention
