Port Elgin's historic Carnegie library is open once again after being closed for major alterations.

Although the first day for the public is Saturday (Feb. 14), donors and the media were invited to a 'sneak peak' Friday.

Those in attendance were particularly appreciative that the new addition had been incorporated with the original building which has now become part of the architecture.

"We really tried to meld the old with the new," said Marzio Apolloni, Director of Libraries for Bruce County. "We wanted to create a space where everyone would feel comfortable and that they were a part of."

"It's been a major project," added Jane Jagelewski of Community Services for the town, "and the people of Port Elgin have been really patient but I think they will think the wait was worth it."

The official opening will be held in the spring.
