Kingsway Arms at Elgin Lodge in Port Elgin is now
opening up its facilities to senior adults who are still living out in
the community but who want to be able to access a variety of retirement
living amenities.
The Monarch Club welcomes everyone to take advantage of the variety of
services being offered and it's all about choices.
Swimming and Exercise

Warm-water pool features Aqua Fit classes
For those who want to access the warm-water pool and
participate in Aqua Fit Exercise classes, it's now possible to do it on
a drop-in basis. "We are also offering strength and conditioning
training for seniors at our Wellness Centre, adjacent to the pool,"
explains Marketing Director, Nancy McGrath. "People can come in two or
three times a week and take part in the program."
Whether it's on a drop-in basis or taking out a membership in the
Monarch Club, it is all about lifestyle and have choices that enhance
the quality of life and maintaining independence as long as possible.
Those who choose the membership option will also receive a
complimentary choice of a shampoo and cut or aromatherapy massage or
lunch or dinner ... again, it's all about choices.
With billiards, card clubs, a bistro, gardening club, matine and moveie
nights and special entertainment that includes guest speakers, there is
literally something for everyone to enjoy.
Respite Care
Aging often also brings with it the need for surgery and Kingsway Arms
is now offering respite care at its finest. With 24-hour professional
care, a therapeutic pool, delicious meals, a furnished room and visiting
physician, there is now no need to go home to an isolated environment
where care can present a problem and worry ... worry for the patient and
worry for the family.
McGrath explains that, "We have several who have come here, particularly
after knee or hip surgery, where they need care but still want to
maintain their independence. We provide a safe and secure environment
where patients in respite receive that much-needed care and attention."
Short-term Visits
For those residents who have visiting family, finding accommodation can
often present a problem. Kingsway Arms now keeps a number of furnished
rooms available for visiting family members, where they can be close to
a relative or parent living in the facility, have meals with as a family
and socialize.
For younger families who have the responsibility of caring for an older
person but who also want to vacation in the area, Kingsway offers
short-term accommodation. For instance, a younger family with an
elderly parent, can vacation in the area and bring their parent with
them.

(continued) The parent can stay at Kingsway,
while the younger family members can stay in alternative accommodation
such as a cottage. They can take their parent out during the day and
then at night return to the Kingsway knowing a warm, safe and secure
environment will be provided in addition to any health care issues.
