Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss receive grants from province

Both Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss have received substantial grants from the province through the Investing in Ontario Act.

Kincardine was awarded $721,784 for capital projects and has decided to spend it on the following projects:
  • Airport fuel system (credit card system), $30,000
  • Fire training facility, $100,000
  • Heat recovery unit for the Tiverton Sports Centre, $45,000
  • Accessible doors at the Tiverton Sports Centre, $25,000
  • Entrance (driveway) at the Davidson Centre, $25,000
  • Mahood Johnston Drive, $171,000
  • Huron Terrace Road and the pedestrian bridge for the Huron Terrace project, $250,000
  • Accessible washrooms at various municipal buildings, provided they are considered capital projects, $45,000.
    These projects will be part of the 2009 budget and business plan.

Other major projects on the list were: the signage program, $414,000; Bike Park Phase II, $50,000; outdoor skating rink/basketball court, $400,000; Victoria Park bathrooms, $200,000; and new Connaught Park washrooms, $125,000. Several other suggestions were deemed maintenance work and did not fulfill the criteria of the grant.

Meanwhile, Huron-Kinloss received a grant of $420,874, and agreed to use it for the Blue/Brown/Ronald Street construction project. Pre-budget approval was granted for this project, to be completed next year.

Both Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss will also apply for funding through the federal and provincnial governments' Building Canada Fund for infrastructure in smaller municipalities.

Kincardine has agreed to put forward the $8.8-million Inverhuron infrastructure project, while Huron-Kinloss will submit the $1.5-million Huron Road project, including easements and Jardine Creek Restoration.
