Les Buell does a re-enactment of surgery during the Civil War

If you want to hear about the struggle to save lives during wartime in the 1860s, come out to the Walker House Speaker Series Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m.

Les Buell, Civil War educator and re-enactor, will be discussing that very topic. His talk will cover three Canadian surgeons who participated in the American Civil War, one of which was Kincardine's own Dr. Secord. The other two include the first black Canadian to graduate from medical school in Canada, and a doctor who ran the blockade of southern ports and served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army.

During his presentation, Buell will do a brief overview of medical knowledge from the Civil War time period, including exhibit items.

Admission is $10 and refreshments will be available.
