Thanks to the help of family, friends and the Kincardine community, Erin Hardman has the funding for a mission trip to New York.

The 19-year-old daughter of Andrew and Donna Hardman of Kincardine, and her boyfriend, Mark Randell, 20, of Barrie, held a curry dinner Friday night at the Kincardine Pentecostal Church and raised about $2,300 which adequately meets the travel requirements for this urban mission.

Erin's grandmother, Pryia Hardman, prepared the food, and the whole family pitched in to help serve about 100 people.

Last year, Erin held a similar dinner, with the help of family and friends, to raise $4,000 for a mission trip to Haiti which, she says, was life-changing.

This year, from May 4-14, she and Mark are joining seven young adults, ages 18-30, through the Salvation Army, working with children and teens at programs offered in New York State, as well as in New York City and the Bronx. They will also be working at an adult learning centre, and helping with renovations at a church.

"I love missions and travel," says Erin who plans to study political science at York University's Glendon Campus this September. She and Mark worked together at a Salvation Army camp last summer and began dating in the fall. They both look forward to ministering to people in New York.

"It will be different than the trip to Haiti," says Erin. "We went there and gave them things. This trip, it'll be more about building relationships with people, helping them, and working with children and teens."
