"Kincardine hospital details are a fine kettle of fish" says Twolan

Huron-Kinloss Council

(continued)

Huron-Kinloss council has received a response from Paul Davies, president and chief executive officer of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, regarding the township's support of the Friends of the Kincardine Hospital's request for detailed financial information.

In an E-mail to the township, Davies explained that information has already been provided and further details are unavailable.

That didn't sit well with councillor Anne Eadie.
"If I were running a business, and I didn't know where the costs were coming from, I'd be concerned," she said.
Administrator Mary Rose Walden said the township has consolidated statements so if a taxpayer in Huron-Kinloss requested specific costs for the Ripley water system, that would be difficult to break out without doing a lot of work.

Eadie said council is aware of the cost for Lucknow recreation and Ripley recreation, and how much it costs to pave a road. "The hospital board should know how much it costs to stock each hospital because they have to send that inventory," she said. "Health care is a huge cost to taxpayers. Maybe they (hospital officials) should keep better tack of costs and efficiencies. They should be able to give out more information.

"It took us two years to get a figure for the number of residents from Huron-Kinloss who use the Kincardine hospital. I have a problem with this answer from Mr. Davies. Maybe some changes need to be made."
"It's a fine kettle of fish," said mayor Mitch Twolan.
