Residents of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound and Huron-Bruce will benefit from federal and provincial funding to build new infrastructure, and a new Owen Sound Multi-Purpose Recreation Facility at Victoria Park; announced today by Larry Miller, MP, Bill Murdoch, MPP, and Carol Mitchell, MPP. This project is just one example of both governments’ commitment to stimulating the Ontario economy through the creation of jobs in our communities.

The many infrastructure projects announced today will improve transportation efficiency, support a healthier environment and enhance local facilities and services.

“Today’s funding announcement is a great opportunity for the riding,” said Bill Murdoch MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. “These funds mean more jobs in the riding and more needed infrastructure projects getting off the ground and running.” said Bill Murdoch, MPP.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our Government is getting shovels in the ground and flowing money faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs for Ontarians,” said Larry Miller. “Thanks to the strong relationship between our two governments, we can work together to help Ontario communities and the economy thrive immediately and in the future; today we are delivering $10,871,860.00 to fund the new recreation facility in Victoria Park.

“Under the leadership of Premier Dalton McGuinty, Ontario is leading the way,” said Carol Mitchell. We are creating jobs and the decisions announced today will soon lead to improved transportation and enhanced facilities and services in our community. Our governments are working together to modernize infrastructure - creating a competitive advantage that attracts business and strengthens our economy today and into the future.”

“The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest approximately $22,000,000.00 in these projects. The local municipalities of Bruce Grey Owen Sound will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost,” said Miller.

These projects are just some of many initiatives across the province that will break ground thanks to this new joint federal and provincial funding. Together with funded applicant contributions, the total investment in local infrastructure improvements by all three levels of government under this intake exceeds $60 million. The governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects starting in the 2009 construction season.
