Incorporation of Southampton Re-enacted on Friday July 25, 2008

The official date of the incorporation of the Town of Southampton that took place on July 24th, 1858 was re-enacted Friday, July 25th, 2008.

Hundreds of people attended the event that began at the foot of the High Street at the flag that was erected to commemorate Southampton's 135th anniversary.

Among those in attendance was the area's representative to Queen's Park, MPP Carol Mitchel, along with MP Paul Steckley.

Organizing committee members of the 150th celebrations were dressed in period costumes as were members of the Chamber of the Commerce, Service Clubs and Southampton residents.

August 14 - 17 is the actual week of celebrations that will see many events including concerts and a parade with marching bands.  The celebrations have been on-going since January.
