It's worth the trip to I.C. Greenhouses.
If you're looking for beautiful flowering plants for your gardens,
it's worth the trip to I.C. Greenhouses, about two miles east of
Highway 21 on the 6th concession of Huron Township.
There, you'll find a vast assortment of flowers in an array of
colours, spread throughout the numerous greenhouses.
Owned and operated by Ida Piel, the business has been serving the
community for approximately 25 years. Piel started with three
greenhouses and now there are 20, featuring rows and rows of
begonias, geraniums, green vines, and proven winners.
One building houses vegetable plants, and two greenhouses are set
aside just for doing planters. Customers can choose from a variety
of ready-made planters, or bring in their own containers to be
filled. You can also browse through the many home decor items and
"new homes" for your plants.
Walking through the greenhouses is an experience in itself, as the
earthy smell of soil mixes with the glorious odour of flowers.
Piel says the business began as a hobby but as the demand for plants
increased, so did the number of greenhouses. Customers wanted to
grow something different, so she expanded to meet those requests.
She now has eight employees and is open for business from 9 a.m. to
8 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; closed
on Sundays.
Her spring opening special is "Buy one flat of plants and get an
extra box for free."
Take the trip to I.C. Greenhouses - one of the area's best kept
secrets. (next column)
