Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell formally announced today funding of $15,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association to renovate their existing buildings. MPP Mitchell joined representatives of the association at the Blyth Arena and congratulated them on their success.

"I am very pleased that the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association received this funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation," said MPP Mitchell. "Preserving the historical and cultural events and festivals that help define our communities is a very important part of respecting the past while looking towards the future.”

The OTF grant will be used to refurbish the existing buildings and help ensure the buildings continued use for community events and celebration. Renovations will assist to preserve cultural heritage and help to attract tourists to this longstanding historical celebration. This year will mark its 48th anniversary.

"The Association is very excited to be a recipient of this grant as it will help refurbish our buildings to accommodate the storage of archives year round and allow us to use the buildings for musical entertainment and display of exhibits during our show,” said Association member Ray Hallahan.

The Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association was established in 1962 with the mission to “preserve our heritage for future generations while at the same time teaching our youth the value and worth of civic pride, participation and hard work, pioneering values that helped to build and maintain our small rural communities. The association is dedicated to providing information to the general public on pioneer activities and hobbies, particularly as they relate to steam engines. The buildings that it owns on municipal property are used by others as well.
