Huron-Kinloss Council

(continued)

  • The township has endorsed a resolution from Prince Edward County, calling on the federal and provincial governments to dedicate resources for scientific research into the public health impacts of low-frequency noise and electrical and electromagnetic disturbances in areas of industrial wind turbines. It also wants the governments to create regulations and guidelines for locating wind turbines and that these be provided to municipalities and wind energy developers.
  • Council has endorsed a resolution from South Algonquin Township, supporting the investigation and promotion of low-grade wood waste to create electric power as an alternative to wind-generated power. "I'm a little leery of this," said Eadie. "I was keen for other forms of green power but I'm not so keen anymore."
  • The township rejected a resolution from Madawaska Valley Township asking the province to freeze property assessments at the 2008 rate and return to a one-year annual assessment.

  • Council also opposed a resolution from Chatsworth Township, regarding a maximum levy increase of 2.5 per cent for the Grey Sauble and Saugeen Valley Conservation Authorities. "It's difficult to be tied to a percentage," said Eadie. "The SVCA is trying to find efficiencies without cutting programs and staff."

  • The township has endorsed a resolution from Tay Valley Township, calling on the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to seek confirmation from the province that Ontario's Waste Diversion Act 2002 will not be jeopardized by falling commodity prices in the recycling industry. In addition, the township will observe Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28, at 8:30 p.m. to show its support for action on climate change; and will observe Energy Conservation Week from May 17-23.
